setting in order to dine together. Various forms of "funeral
feasting" are among the most widespread death rites worldwide. Stories about the deceased are exchanged, positive memories shared. And yes, laughing is permitted. Cheerfulness can help to relieve emotions and begin the process of mourning.
Finally, the funeral feast ("Leichenschmaus" in German") is a reminder to the bereaved that life in all its facets goes on and death is ultimately a stage of earthly existence.
