Dance of death
Video, Installation
2018

Is there any better way to celebrate life than by dancing? Like other forms of art, dance has always been concerned with the subject of death. Repeated rhythmic movements, rocking, and singing offer solace during the process of grieving.

Previously, in Tobago, a ritual limbo dance was performed each night as part of the wake in the week before a funeral. With the back bent backwards, the dancer moves under a horizontal bar. The difficulty lies in not causing the pole to drop – a metaphor for the onerous journey to heaven. The emergence on the other side of the limbo bar symbolizes a triumph of life over death.

How low can you go?
